About The Position

The Retail Party and Event Host plans, coordinates, and facilitates events—including children’s birthday parties and craft classes—at a Michaels store, creating a fun, engaging, and stress-free experience for guests. The role also provides customer service throughout the store, supports checkout, and performs operational tasks such as truck unloading, stocking, merchandise recovery, and store maintenance. The host coordinates multiple events at once, communicates with clients and store team members, demonstrates craft projects, leads activities such as face painting, and manages event add-ons. The role includes administrative work, adapting events to client feedback, preparing backup plans, and ensuring client satisfaction. Hosts set up, break down, and clean event spaces while upholding company cleanliness and safety standards. Additional duties include helping customers locate products, promoting Rewards and Private Label Credit Card programs, supporting omnichannel orders, participating in inventory and merchandising processes, maintaining store cleanliness, and following company policies and procedures. Team members are cross-trained in Custom Framing sales and production.

Requirements

Retail and/or customer service experience is required.
Experience working with children and children’s events is required.
Excellent people skills and the ability to interact effectively with guests of all ages and coworkers.
Ability to handle job stress and remain positive and respectful in difficult situations.
Good written, verbal, and nonverbal communication and listening skills.

Ability to remain standing for long periods and move throughout the store.
Ability to bend, lift, carry, reach, and stretch regularly; lift heavy boxes; and access high shelves using a ladder or similar equipment.

Responsibilities

Plan and coordinate multiple events, including children’s birthday parties, craft classes, and other store events.
Engage guests of all ages and create an enjoyable environment centered on fun and creativity.
Demonstrate and instruct participants in craft projects, face painting, and other activities.
Facilitate party add-ons such as goody bags and balloons according to company standards.
Communicate event details with clients and store team members; answer emails, make phone calls, and complete paperwork.
Adapt plans based on client feedback and needs, create backup or emergency plans, and ensure client satisfaction.
Set up, break down, and clean event spaces before and after events while following cleanliness and safety standards.
Help customers shop, locate products, and find solutions; provide a fast and friendly checkout experience.
Inform customers about the Rewards program and Private Label Credit Cards and complete enrollments.
Educate customers about the Voice of Customer survey.
Assist with Buy Online Pickup in Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS) processes.
Participate in truck unloading, stocking, planogram processes, Store in Stock Optimization (SISO), and ad set duties as assigned.
Complete merchandise recovery and maintenance and support shrink and safety programs.
Follow standard operating procedures, company programs, policies, and standards, including applicable legal requirements.
Interact respectfully and positively with guests and coworkers and serve as a role model for other team members.
Cross-train in Custom Framing sales and production.
Participate in daily store cleaning, including sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, and maintaining restroom cleanliness.
Perform other duties as assigned.
