About The Position
As a Retail Sales Associate, also known as a Sales General Utility colleague, you are an integral part of bringing the Macy’s magic, and the Macy’s shopper is your highest priority. By paying close attention to customer preferences and developing expertise in Macy’s merchandise and services, you create exceptional customer experiences. You help your team meet sales goals through consistently superior service and contribute a positive, welcoming presence throughout your area. The role includes working on the sales floor, in fitting rooms, and with product presentations as part of a collaborative team. This seasonal role requires a flexible team player who can thrive in a fast-paced environment, switch between tasks, and work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. No education or experience is required. The position involves prolonged standing and walking, frequent use of computers and handheld electronic equipment, reaching, crouching, kneeling, stooping, climbing ladders, and lifting and moving items weighing up to 30 pounds.
Requirements
- Flexible availability for days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, with dependable attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to communicate comfortably with customers virtually, by phone, and in person.
- Ability to build customer relationships, achieve sales goals, and participate in pre-selling and sales-boosting events.
- Ability to use point-of-sale technology and applications to sell and fulfill customer orders.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with colleagues at all levels and across departments.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, adapt to changing priorities, and handle electronic devices.
- Ability to understand and communicate effectively with customers, coworkers, and supervisors, and to read and understand employment policies and safety rules and procedures in English.
- Ability to stand or walk around the store or department for prolonged periods of at least two consecutive hours.
- Ability to use computers and handheld electronic equipment frequently; reach above eye level; crouch, kneel, stoop, and climb ladders; and lift and move items weighing up to 30 pounds.
Responsibilities
- Greet and connect with customers in a friendly, genuine way and show appreciation for their experience.
- Recommend products by identifying customer needs and inspiring purchases with relevant products and new merchandise.
- Offer options and solutions to help customers complete purchases.
- Close out customers’ shopping journeys and celebrate their purchases.
- Learn store products, services, loyalty programs, and sales systems to help customers find what they need and suggest additional items.
- Maintain department recovery standards, including on the selling floor and in fitting rooms.
- Execute merchandise presentation, ensure accurate pricing, and process markdowns accurately and promptly.
- Foster acceptance and respect, strengthening relationships and authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities.
- Partner with the team to drive sales and deliver a positive customer experience.
