About The Position

As a Retail Sales Associate, also known as a Sales General Utility colleague, you help create exceptional customer experiences by learning customers’ preferences and developing expertise in Macy’s merchandise and services. You support team sales goals by providing consistently superior service and contribute throughout the sales floor, fitting rooms, and product presentations. This is a fast-paced role for a flexible team player who can handle multiple tasks and work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

• Flexible availability, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, with dependable attendance and punctuality.
• Ability to communicate comfortably with customers virtually, by phone, and in person.
• Ability to build customer relationships, achieve sales goals, and participate in pre-selling and sales-boosting events.
• Ability to use point-of-sale technology and applications to sell and fulfill customer orders.
• Self-motivation to maintain product knowledge, follow trends, and complete training through Macy’s educational resources.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with colleagues at all levels and across departments.
• Ability to collaborate with the team to drive sales and deliver a positive customer experience.

• Ability to stand or walk around the store or department for prolonged periods of at least two consecutive hours.
• Ability to frequently use computers and handheld electronic equipment.
• Ability to reach above eye level, crouch, kneel, stoop, and distinguish colors; lift and move items weighing up to 30 pounds; and climb ladders.
• No education or experience required.

Responsibilities

• Greet and connect with customers in a friendly, genuine way and show appreciation for their experience.
• Recommend products by identifying customer needs and suggesting relevant products and new merchandise.
• Offer options and solutions to help customers complete purchases.
• Close out customers’ shopping journeys and celebrate their purchases.
• Learn store products, services, loyalty programs, and sales systems to assist customers and suggest additional items.
• Maintain department recovery standards, including the selling floor and fitting rooms.
• Ensure merchandise is presented effectively, pricing is accurate, and markdowns are processed promptly and accurately.
• Foster an accepting and respectful environment and build authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities.
