About the position
Axios is seeking a Reporter to cover Miami as part of their local news initiative. The Reporter will be responsible for creating a meaningful local presence in the market and delivering news that matters to readers. They will connect local, national, and global developments to provide readers with a comprehensive understanding of the narratives shaping their lives. Ideal candidates should have experience covering news in Miami, strong reporting skills, and a deep knowledge of the local market. Responsibilities
- Co-author a daily Axios newsletter that features insights and scoops relevant to the local audience
- Have a command of the local market and sources to inform readers about their communities
- Contribute to building Axios Local and shape its evolution
- Collaborate with teams at Axios to create impactful stories across multiple platforms
- Build an audience for the newsletter and journalism on social and local media
- Cover news in Miami with excellent sources and the ability to create new ones
- Demonstrate strong reporting skills and work comfortably in a fast-paced news environment with deadlines
- Break news and generate conceptual scoops
- Possess deep knowledge of the local market, including politics, business, and social issues
- Understand local and national news coverage more broadly
- Write in Smart Brevity
- Embody an entrepreneurial spirit and passion for Axios' mission
- Ensure an open, inclusive, and diverse work culture

Requirements
- Co-authoring a daily Axios newsletter that features insights and scoops that matter most to their local audience
- A command of the local market along with the sourcing necessary to illuminate busy readers about the communities where they live
- Helping to building Axios Local and shaping how the product evolves
- Collaborating across teams at Axios to create stories that have impact and bringing stories to life across multiple platforms (online, video, broadcast, or podcast)
- Commitment to building an audience for your newsletter and journalism on social and local media
- Experience covering news in Miami
- Excellent sources and ability to create new ones
- Strong reporting skills and comfort working in a fast-paced news environment and on deadline
- Ability to break news and create conceptual scoops
- Deep knowledge of the local market, including politics, business, and/or social issues
- Background in understanding local and national news coverage more broadly
- A belief in and dedication to writing in Smart Brevity
