About the position
Axios is seeking a Reporter to cover the D.C. area as part of their local news initiative. The reporter will be responsible for authoring the Axios D.C. newsletter, connecting local, national, and global developments, and helping to build Axios Local. Ideal candidates should have experience covering news in D.C., excellent sources, strong reporting skills, and deep knowledge of the area. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to Axios' mission of providing trustworthy news content in an audience-first format.
Responsibilities
- Authoring the Axios D.C. newsletter, featuring insights and scoops relevant to the D.C.-area audience
- Having a command of the DMV and utilizing sourcing to inform readers about their community
- Assisting in the development of Axios Local and influencing its evolution
- Collaborating with teams at Axios to create impactful stories across various platforms (online, video, broadcast, or podcast)
- Covering news in D.C. with experience and expertise
- Establishing and maintaining excellent sources, as well as creating new ones
- Demonstrating strong reporting skills and comfort in a fast-paced news environment with tight deadlines
- Breaking news and generating conceptual scoops
- Possessing deep knowledge of the area, including politics, business and economic development, real estate, culture, and social issues
- Understanding both local and national news coverage
Requirements
- Authoring the Axios D.C. newsletter
- Command of the DMV and sourcing necessary to inform readers about their community
- Helping to build Axios Local and shaping product evolution
- Collaborating across teams to create impactful stories across multiple platforms
- Experience covering news in D.C.
- Excellent sources and ability to create new ones
- Strong reporting skills and ability to work in a fast-paced news environment on deadline
- Ability to break news and create conceptual scoops
- Deep knowledge of the area, including politics, business and economic development, real estate, culture, and social issues
- Background in understanding local and national news coverage
