About the position
Axios is seeking a remote Senior Engineering Manager to join their media engineering team. The Senior Engineering Manager will play a crucial role in supporting individual engineers, facilitating cross-functional teams, onboarding and managing a diverse team, creating efficient processes, and maintaining a balanced work culture. Ideal candidates should have experience leading engineering teams, a strong understanding of software development, and excellent communication skills. Responsibilities
- Directly support individual engineers through 1:1s, coaching, and feedback.
- Help cross-functional teams work productively, with effective prioritization and resourcing.
- Onboard and manage a diverse team of individual contributors, and actively foster an inclusive environment.
- Create processes that help engineers focus, rather than feel impeded.
- Help maintain a culture that balances healthy urgency with the need for downtime and recuperation.
- Help facilitate a large technical migration while ensuring teams continue to deliver value to customers.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience leading engineering teams
- Understanding of how software development succeeds and fails
- Track record of treating engineers as humans, rather than fungible resources
- Excellent listening and communication skills
- Ability to work in a remote environment
