About The Position

The Faculty of Social Sciences, School of Sociological and Anthropological Studies is seeking a Regular Part-Time Professor to teach SCS1150 A00: Introduction to Social Sciences during the Fall 2026 semester. This course aims to develop general knowledge and understanding of the social sciences, its main themes, and various perspectives on social realities. Students will gain skills to understand how societies work and how different social sciences disciplines contribute to knowledge. The course involves critical readings, nuanced analyses expressing clear arguments based on existing data, and interpretations of different types of documents from a diversity of sources. The position is for an in-person course with a schedule of Wednesdays from 16:00-17:30 and Fridays from 14:30-16:00. The expected enrollment is 173 students, and the course is 3 credits. The hourly rate for teaching is $239.47 (2024-2025 rates, subject to collective agreement ratification).

Requirements

  • PhD in sociology or completed sociology Ph.D. coursework or equivalent training in social sciences.
  • Track record demonstrating expertise and capacity to teach an introductory course in social sciences, evidenced by teaching identical or similar courses or publications in this field.
  • Successful completion of all mandatory legislated training as required by provincial law.
  • Ability to apply for positions using the worker profile in Workday if currently an active employee of the University of Ottawa.

Responsibilities
