About The Position

Indiana University Health is seeking a compassionate, service-oriented Registration Specialist I to support patients and colleagues and help deliver excellent care. The role facilitates patient flow from entry to destination, gathers information needed to create accurate financial and demographic records, and supports appropriate reimbursement and clinical outcomes. It also involves scheduling appointments, interviewing patients for medical information, explaining department and hospital charges and policies, validating and entering charges in appropriate systems, collecting payments, answering incoming calls, and directing patients and visitors.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.

Nice To Haves

• Relevant experience in a health care setting.
• Ability to learn and retain medical coding, including ICD-10; CPT coding is preferred.
• Ability to interpret insurance information.
• Knowledge of clinical practices and medical terminology.
• Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate patient flow from point of entry to destination in a timely, accurate, and professional manner.
• Obtain information to create accurate patient financial and demographic records and support maximum reimbursement and clinical outcomes.
• Schedule appointments and interview patients to obtain appropriate medical information.
• Explain department and hospital charges and policies.
• Validate and enter charges into appropriate systems and collect necessary payments.
• Answer incoming calls and direct patients and visitors appropriately.
