About The Position

The Registered Nurse in Cardiac Rehab at CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi - Shoreline provides routine and complex nursing care in the assigned clinical setting. The nurse practices independently, recognizes relevant aspects of clinical situations, and continues to develop the ability to manage contingencies and work toward long-range goals. The role includes making appropriate assignments and delegating to other care providers to help manage clinical situations.

Consistent with the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, the nurse uses the nursing process to assess, diagnose, plan, intervene, and evaluate care for assigned patients. The nurse addresses patients’ and families’ increasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs, administers medications and treatments according to protocol, monitors treatment effectiveness and side effects, documents patient histories and care, and assesses learning needs to provide education and identify relevant issues and resources.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing preferred.
• One year of experience in the related nursing specialty preferred.
• One year of experience in a critical care setting preferred; new graduates are accepted.
• BLS certification required; AHA or Red Cross certification is accepted at hire, with no grace period.
• RN license in the state of employment or a compact RN license.
• Current ACLS certification required; the stated credential grace period is within 30 days of hire for experienced associates and within 90 days for new graduates and experienced associates new to the specialty.
• Newly hired experienced RNs must attend New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days of hire.
• New hires must complete precepted onboarding, including designated organizational entry competency validation and Critical Care Department-specific competency validation.
• Complete all annual competency verification requirements.
• Obtain any required certifications within the applicable credential grace periods.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care using the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation.
• Address the psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families in accordance with the nurse’s level of practice.
• Administer medications and treatments according to the appropriate protocol and monitor for side effects and effectiveness.
• Document patient history, symptoms, medication, and care provided.
• Assess learning needs and provide education to patients, family members, and caregivers; identify issues and resources.
• Make appropriate assignments and delegate to other care providers as needed to manage clinical situations.
