RN - Registered Nurse - Adult Psych - Multiple Shifts
About The Position
The Registered Nurse provides direct care to adult and geriatric behavioral health patients with acute and chronic mental health needs. The role is on the Adult Psych unit at UAB St. Vincent’s East, where a team-based care model delivers individualized, compassionate care in a safe, structured environment focused on stabilization, recovery, and long-term wellness. The nurse performs initial and ongoing biopsychosocial assessments, develops and implements a nursing plan of care consistent with the master treatment plan, and evaluates and revises care as needed. The nurse participates in treatment team conferences and conducts or co-leads group therapy sessions. The position is offered as full-time day or night work, with three 12-hour shifts per week. The listed schedule for both options is 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Requirements
- Licensed Associate Professional Registered Nurse credential from the Alabama Board of Nursing, obtained before the hire date or job transfer date.
- Diploma from an accredited school or college of nursing.
- Required professional nursing licensure at the time of hire.
- BLS Provider certification obtained within 30 days of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care to behavioral health patients in accordance with facility policies and procedures.
- Perform initial and ongoing biopsychosocial assessments according to accepted standards of nursing practice.
- Develop a nursing plan of care consistent with the master treatment plan.
- Participate in treatment team conferences to help plan and revise goals, objectives, and interventions based on each patient's age-related and problem-specific needs.
- Implement the nursing plan of care for assigned patients.
- Conduct and/or co-lead group therapy sessions for patients.
- Evaluate patients’ responses to interventions and revise the nursing plan of care as needed.
- Collaborate with the treatment team to revise goals, objectives, and interventions as patient status changes.
