RN - Registered Nurse - Geri Psych - Multiple Shifts
About The Position
The Registered Nurse provides direct care to behavioral health patients in accordance with facility policies and procedures. The role serves adult and geriatric patients with acute and chronic mental health needs in a safe, structured environment focused on stabilization, recovery, and long-term wellness. The care model is team-based and individualized. The position is in the Behavioral Health – Geriatric Psychiatry department at UAB St. Vincent’s East. Full-time schedules include day or night shifts consisting of three 12-hour shifts per week, as well as a WIN day schedule. PRN 12-hour shifts are also listed.
Requirements
- Alabama Registered Nurse licensure through the Alabama Board of Nursing, obtained before the hire date or job transfer date.
- Diploma from an accredited school or college of nursing.
- BLS Provider certification obtained within 30 days of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.
- Required professional nursing licensure at the time of hire.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care to behavioral health patients in accordance with facility policies and procedures.
- Perform initial and ongoing biopsychosocial assessments according to accepted nursing practice standards.
- Develop a nursing plan of care consistent with the master treatment plan.
- Participate in treatment team conferences to help plan and revise goals, objectives, and interventions for patients’ age-related and problem-specific needs.
- Implement the nursing plan of care for assigned patients.
- Conduct and/or co-lead group therapy sessions for patients.
- Evaluate patients’ responses to interventions and revise nursing plans of care as needed.
- Collaborate with the treatment team to revise goals, objectives, and interventions in response to changes in patient status.
