About The Position

The Registered Nurse works in the Florence H. Busby Critical Care Unit at Backus Hospital, a 12-bed unit providing critical care to patients with a range of medical and surgical conditions. The unit works as a multidisciplinary team and receives referrals from Windham Hospital and the Plainfield Emergency Department. Staff includes registered nurses, technicians, interventionists, and round-the-clock respiratory therapy coverage. The nurse demonstrates clinical competence by using the nursing process and developing a collaborative nurse-patient relationship. The role includes assessing and identifying patient problems and needs, establishing a plan of care, implementing care, and evaluating its effectiveness. The position requires sound nursing judgment, clear communication, adaptability, and the ability to respond appropriately to changing circumstances and emergencies.

Requirements

Graduate of a school of nursing; a BSN is preferred.
One year of RN experience and/or successful completion of The William W. Backus Hospital Nurse Residency Program.
Current, unrestricted Connecticut Registered Nurse license in good standing.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification upon hire.
Ability to obtain and maintain Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 90 days of hire.
Ability to obtain and maintain department-specific certifications.
Basic knowledge of nursing principles and practices.
Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions.
Effective communication skills, including the ability to convey technical or complex information and provide instruction.
Interpersonal skills to communicate with departments, employees, physicians, managers, and patients.
Ability to handle multiple priorities, be flexible, and work as a team player.
Ability to work in a stressful environment and commitment to customer service.
Basic computer knowledge for entering and retrieving data.
Analytical ability to gather and interpret information from various sources.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
