RN - Registered Nurse - Med Surg Stepdown - Multiple Shifts
About The Position
The Registered Nurse will provide direct nursing care to patients in the 30-bed medical and surgical stepdown unit, 4 South, at UAB St. Vincent’s Birmingham. The unit cares for a wide range of patients and offers a supportive, teaching-focused environment for nurses to develop clinical skills and expertise. It is suited to nurses seeking to advance their skills without working in the intensity of an ICU. The position is available in multiple full-time schedules: day shifts, night shifts, weekend days, or WIN days. Each schedule consists of 12-hour shifts. The role includes coordinating patient care with the healthcare team, implementing and monitoring care plans, communicating patient conditions, following physician and nursing orders, and coordinating discharge planning. Requirements
- Alabama Board of Nursing Registered Nurse credential required before hire or job transfer.
- Diploma from an accredited school or college of nursing.
- BLS Provider certification required within 30 days of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification accepted.
- Advanced Life Support certification required within 180 days of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification accepted.
- Required professional nursing licensure at the time of hire.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care in accordance with the healthcare organization’s established policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Implement and monitor patient care plans.
- Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition as appropriate.
- Serve as a primary coordinator of all disciplines to support well-coordinated patient care.
- Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
- Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team.
