RN - Registered Nurse - Med Surg Stepdown - Multiple Shifts
About The Position
The Registered Nurse provides direct nursing care on 4 South, a 30-bed medical and surgical stepdown unit at UAB St. Vincent’s Birmingham. The unit cares for a wide range of patients and offers a dynamic, supportive, teaching-focused environment for nurses to develop clinical skills and expertise. It is suited to nurses seeking to advance their skills without the intensity of an ICU. Multiple full-time schedules are available: day shifts (three 12-hour shifts, 7:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m.); night shifts (three 12-hour shifts, 7:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m.); weekend days (two 12-hour shifts, Saturday and Sunday, 7:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m.); and WIN days (three 12-hour shifts, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, or Friday, Saturday, and another weekday, 7:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m.). The work location is UAB St. Vincent’s Birmingham. A bonus of up to $20,000 is listed. Requirements
- Obtain BLS Provider certification within 30 days of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.
- Obtain Advanced Life Support certification within 180 days of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.
- Hold an active Licensed Associate Professional Registered Nurse credential from the Alabama Board of Nursing before hire or job transfer.
- Have a diploma from an accredited school or college of nursing and the required professional licensure at the time of hire.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care in accordance with the healthcare organization’s established policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Implement and monitor patient care plans; monitor, record, and communicate patient condition as appropriate.
- Coordinate care as the primary coordinator among disciplines.
- Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
- Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team.
