About The Position

This is a travel assignment for a Registered Nurse with Operating Room (OR) and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) responsibilities in a rural hospital setting in Fortuna, California. The role involves circulating in the OR and providing recovery care in the PACU for a diverse patient population from pediatrics to geriatrics. The assignment requires on-call and weekend coverage, with a specific number of pre-approved time off available upfront. Orientation is provided, and there may be opportunities to float to nearby facilities. Endoscopy experience is a mandatory requirement, along with specific certifications.

Requirements

  • Active RN license; compact state license in hand at submission
  • Certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS
  • Minimum 1 year RN experience
  • Experience in OR and PACU responsibilities
  • Endoscopy experience required
  • RN degree (RN licensure demonstrated)
  • Ability to work in a rural hospital OR/PACU setting
  • On-call requirements: 2 days per week (includes holidays and weekends); 3 weekend on-call shifts per month
  • May be asked to float to nearby facilities
  • 2 references within the last 3 years
  • 1 pre-approved time off available upfront

Responsibilities

  • Circulate in the OR and provide PACU recovery care, including airway management and continuous monitoring
  • Respond to codes and emergencies, maintain patient safety, and ensure proper use of electrosurgical units
  • Support perioperative nursing across general surgical cases and maintain sterile technique
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teammates (Respiratory Services, Pharmacy, Unit Secretary) to coordinate care
  • Manage a patient population spanning pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics
  • Document care in the charting system and ensure accurate perioperative records
  • Support endoscopy- and general surgical procedures (e.g., appendectomy, cholecystectomy, hernia repairs, total joint replacements, and related endoscopic cases)
