About The Position

This is a travel assignment for a Registered Nurse in Medical-Surgical units at a hospital in Hilo, Hawaii. The assignment is for 13 weeks, starting on September 14, 2026, with a shift of 12-hour days, following a 3x12 schedule. The role involves providing direct nursing care to adult medical and surgical patients, floating between different units as needed, and collaborating with the healthcare team. Orientation and unit-based onboarding are provided. Please note that guaranteed hours are not guaranteed, and pay rates are estimates.

Requirements

  • Hawaii State RN license active by start date
  • BLS certification
  • ACLS certification required
  • 2–10 years of RN experience
  • Ability to float to Medical, Laulima, and Cardiovascular units as needed
  • Proficiency with Meditech EMR
  • Experience with wound vac and chest tube care
  • Must arrive the Thursday before start to attend an employee health appointment

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care for adult medical and surgical patients across assigned units; monitor patient status, administer medications, perform treatments, and document in the Meditech EMR
  • Float between units as needed: Medical Unit (77 beds), Laulima Surgical Acute (18 beds), and, on rare occasions, Cardiovascular Unit (15 beds)
  • Support procedures and post-procedure care; manage wound vacs and chest tube care; assist with mobility, hygiene, and comfort measures
  • Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and support staff; participate in rounds; communicate changes to the care team and families as appropriate
  • Ensure patient safety and quality of care; adhere to infection control protocols and accident prevention; document care and discharge planning activities
  • Maintain professional appearance and unit guidelines; adapt to varying nurse-patient ratios by unit (Medical 1:6 days/evenings, 1:8 nights; Laulima 1:6; Cardiovascular 1:4)
