About The Position

The Med/Surg unit cares for adult patients across the life span and collaborates with the broad health care team to deliver patient-centered care in a fast-paced, accredited facility environment. This is an 8-week contract position in a Short Term Acute Care Hospital setting, with 36 guaranteed hours per week, working 3x12 Night shifts. The role involves providing direct nursing care, assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care, administering medications and IV therapy, monitoring patients, coordinating discharge planning, and documenting care in the electronic medical record.

Requirements

Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in California
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required at time of hire
At least two years of recent relevant nursing experience in acute care or Med/Surg
Ability to work a night shift in a short-term acute care setting
Demonstrated competency in dysrhythmia during orientation
EPIC experience is noted as part of typical workflow

Nice To Haves

Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred
Additional certifications (e.g., PALS, NRP, IV Sedation) may be required depending on unit assignment.

Responsibilities

Provide direct nursing care for a group of Med/Surg patients across adult and geriatric ages per the nursing process.
Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care in collaboration with the medical team and in alignment with the plan of care.
Administer medications and manage IV therapy, monitor patient responses, and address clinical changes promptly.
Monitor and respond to patient needs, perform frequent assessments, and escalate concerns as needed.
Coordinate patient discharge planning, patient/family teaching, and transitions of care in collaboration with case management and social work.
Document care accurately in the electronic medical record and communicate effectively with the health care team.
