About The Position

This clinical role is in a Critical Access Hospital setting operating a blended Med Surg unit with swing bed and occasional PCU-level care. The assignment is for a Registered Nurse, Med Surg (Travel) in Illinois, starting on 09/07/2026 for a 13-week assignment. The role involves providing direct nursing care, monitoring patient status, administering medications, maintaining documentation, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, and supporting discharge planning.

Requirements

Active RN license or equivalent license eligibility; practice in Illinois per location requirements
Ability to work the 7 PM–7 AM night shift on a blended unit (no on-call requirement)
Comfortable with navigating multiple care streams on Med Surg, Swing Bed, and PCU within the same assignment
Strong communication and teamwork skills; capable of independent critical thinking and timely escalation
Proficiency with standard charting practices and patient safety protocols

Responsibilities

Provide direct nursing care on a blended Med Surg unit, balancing Med Surg, Swing Bed, and occasional PCU-level patients
Monitor patient status, perform assessments, administer medications and IV therapies, and manage drips as appropriate
Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic health record and communicate changes to the care team
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and participate in unit committees to support safety, quality, and patient outcomes
Apply appropriate patient assignment practices, with ratios: 1:5 Med Surg; 1:5–6 Swing Bed; 1:3–4 PCU depending on acuity and drips
Support discharge planning and patient-family education while ensuring continuity of care
Adhere to unit policies, participate in safety initiatives, and contribute to a positive work environment
