About The Position

This is a travel Registered Nurse - Med Surg travel assignment in Rochester, NY, starting on 09/14/2026 for a 17-week contract. The role is in an inpatient medical-surgical unit providing intensive symptom management for adults 18 and older, including end-of-life care. The position involves 12-hour rotating shifts with coverage including weekends and holidays, and on-call as needed. Telemetry experience is not required.

Requirements

  • NYS RN license required
  • Minimum 2 years of recent palliative or acute med-surg experience
  • BLS certification from the American Heart Association
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts with rotating days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays; ability to work on-call per unit need

Nice To Haves

  • Telemetry experience not required
  • Experience with patient-controlled analgesia pumps or CHPN certification highly desired

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to adults on the med-surg/palliative unit, including performing comprehensive assessments and documenting changes for timely physician notification
  • Manage complex symptom management, including end-of-life needs, IV therapies, wound care, and medication administration such as analgesia
  • Monitor patient status, respond to deteriorations, and advocate for patients and families to support informed care decisions
  • Administer and monitor patient-controlled analgesia pumps when applicable; follow unit protocols for safety and efficacy
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team (physicians, APPs, social work, wound care, and chaplaincy) to develop and adjust care plans; educate patients and families
  • Participate in care transitions and discharge planning; provide on-call coverage as required by the unit
