About The Position

This travel opportunity is with Healthforce Healthcare LLC. It is a temporary assignment at a Short Term Acute Care Hospital in San Luis Obispo, California. The assignment duration is 13 weeks, with a start date of 09/21/2026. The role involves planning and delivering nursing care for antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum patients, including emergency situations and circulating for C-sections. The nurse will monitor maternal and fetal status, administer pain control, educate patients and families, and supervise ancillary staff.

Requirements

  • Active RN license in the state of practice (California)
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS); Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS); Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) from approved vendors
  • Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Course (or equivalent) and Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM) credentials or AWHONN certification
  • Two years of recent Labor & Delivery experience required
  • Associate Degree in Nursing required
  • EPIC electronic medical record experience
  • Ability to work in a hospital maternity setting on a unit with unit-needs scheduling
  • Night shift availability: 7:00 PM–7:30 AM; schedule is based on unit needs (no block scheduling)

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver nursing care for antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum patients, including emergency situations and circulating for C-sections.
  • Monitor maternal and fetal status, assess amniotic fluid status, vaginal bleeding, and respond to perinatal emergencies (e.g., crash C-section, precipitous delivery, shoulder dystocia).
  • Administer and manage pain control during labor; assist with epidural catheter placement and monitor maternal/fetal status during and after medication administration.
  • Educate patients and families on all stages of perinatal care; collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to implement a patient-centered care plan.
  • Supervise and delegate to ancillary staff consistent with scope of practice; circulate for procedures as needed and ensure safety and quality standards are met.
