About The Position

This travel opportunity is with Healthforce Healthcare LLC. It is a temporary assignment at a Short Term Acute Care Hospital in San Luis Obispo, California. The assignment duration is 13 weeks, with a start date of 09/21/2026. The role involves planning and delivering nursing care for antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum patients, including emergency situations and circulating for C-sections. The nurse will monitor maternal and fetal status, administer pain control, educate patients and families, and supervise ancillary staff.

Requirements

Active RN license in the state of practice (California)
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS); Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS); Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) from approved vendors
Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Course (or equivalent) and Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM) credentials or AWHONN certification
Two years of recent Labor & Delivery experience required
Associate Degree in Nursing required
EPIC electronic medical record experience
Ability to work in a hospital maternity setting on a unit with unit-needs scheduling
Night shift availability: 7:00 PM–7:30 AM; schedule is based on unit needs (no block scheduling)

Responsibilities

Plan and deliver nursing care for antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum patients, including emergency situations and circulating for C-sections.
Monitor maternal and fetal status, assess amniotic fluid status, vaginal bleeding, and respond to perinatal emergencies (e.g., crash C-section, precipitous delivery, shoulder dystocia).
Administer and manage pain control during labor; assist with epidural catheter placement and monitor maternal/fetal status during and after medication administration.
Educate patients and families on all stages of perinatal care; collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to implement a patient-centered care plan.
Supervise and delegate to ancillary staff consistent with scope of practice; circulate for procedures as needed and ensure safety and quality standards are met.
