About The Position

This is a travel assignment for a Registered Nurse specializing in Labor & Delivery (L&D) in San Luis Obispo, California. The contract is for 13 weeks, starting on 09/14/2026. The role involves working night shifts (3x12) in a Short Term Acute Care Hospital with an active Labor & Delivery service line. The position offers competitive weekly pay and guaranteed hours, with potential for extension.

Requirements

  • Active RN license in the state of practice (California)
  • Associate Degree in Nursing required
  • Minimum of two years of recent Labor & Delivery experience
  • Current BLS
  • ACLS
  • PALS
  • NRP
  • Intermediate Fetal Monitoring
  • Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM) or AWHONN
  • AHA/ARC BLS and ACLS as applicable
  • NRP per policy
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) required
  • Ability to work night shift in a Short Term Acute Care Hospital setting
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a perinatal care team

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred
  • department-specific FHM/AWHONN certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver nursing care for antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum patients, including management of obstetric emergencies and circulating for C-sections.
  • Monitor maternal and fetal status; assess amniotic fluid, vaginal bleeding, and overall fetal well-being; implement appropriate maternal pain management and alternative modalities when suitable.
  • Assist with epidural catheter placement, monitor patient status during and after administration, and respond to perinatal emergencies (e.g., crash C-section, precipitous delivery, shoulder dystocia).
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team; supervise and delegate tasks to ancillary staff within scope of practice; ensure accurate documentation and care plans.
  • Provide patient/family education across perinatal and postpartum stages, including newborn care and discharge planning.
  • Maintain clinical judgment in crisis situations, adhere to unit policies, and support a safe, patient-centered environment.
