About The Position

This is a travel Registered Nurse (RN) position in the Emergency Department (ER) located in Middlebury, Vermont. The assignment is for 16 weeks, with a start date of 09/14/2026. The role involves providing direct emergency nursing care to a diverse patient population in a hospital-based ED. The ED has a capacity of 10-14 beds and utilizes Epic for documentation, with telemedicine support available for stroke care.

Requirements

Current RN license to practice in the United States; Vermont licensure or eligibility required.
Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, ENPC or equivalent; NRP; NIHSS; TNCC required. TNCC (or proof of class with date applied) must be in the packet; NIHSS required prior to start.
Minimum 2 years of clinical ED experience.
At least 1 prior travel assignment.
EPIC EMR experience within the past 2 years is required.

Nice To Haves

Charge nurse experience preferred.
Experience in a rural ED or CAH setting.
Ability to work 3x12-hour night shifts and participation in holiday coverage as needed.
Competencies: strong triage, IV placement, EKG interpretation, IV drips/infusions, patient transport coordination, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

Deliver direct emergency nursing care to a mixed-age patient population (0–100+) in a 10–14 bed ED, including triage, initial assessment, and ongoing monitoring.
Administer medications and IV therapies per physician orders, manage IV access with Alaris pumps, and monitor patient responses.
Perform ECGs, run point-of-care testing, coordinate imaging as indicated, and participate in resuscitation efforts and patient transports to higher levels of care when needed (e.g., STEMI, stroke, trauma).
Document care accurately in the Epic EMR; collaborate with ED team, charge nurse, and ancillary staff; follow unit protocols and safety standards.
Utilize ED support personnel (ED techs, CNA/PCT, unit clerk) and maintain compliance with departmental procedures, including procedural sedation and IV/drip infusions.
Engage in telemedicine/telestroke consultations as part of the patient care plan and contribute to ongoing quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
