About The Position

This is a travel assignment for a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department (ER) located in Simi Valley, California. The assignment is in a hospital-based emergency department within an acute care environment. The role involves providing direct patient care, administering medications, assisting with procedures, and collaborating with the healthcare team to ensure patient safety and optimal outcomes. The position requires proficiency in EMR systems and strong critical thinking and communication skills.

Requirements

  • Active Registered Nurse license in California (or current eligibility for CA practice)
  • ER nursing experience or acute care ED exposure
  • BLS certification required
  • Ability to work 3x12-hour night shifts and adapt to a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency with Cerner and LaunchPoint EMR or demonstrated ability to learn new electronic record systems
  • Strong critical thinking, communication, and teamwork skills; comfort with high-acuity, solution-focused care

Nice To Haves

  • Travel experience preferred
  • ACLS certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care in a fast-paced ED, including initial assessment, triage, prioritization, and ongoing monitoring of patient status.
  • Administer medications and ensure accurate documentation in the Cerner and LaunchPoint EMR systems; utilize Pyxis for medication dispensing.
  • Assist with and respond to ED procedures and emergent events, including central lines, procedural sedations, TEE, bronchs, bubble studies, paracentesis, lumbar punctures, and blood patches as needed.
  • Support ultrasound-guided IV access and collaborate with the ED team, PICC team, phlebotomy, unit secretary, and hospitalist teams to coordinate care.
  • Maintain patient safety, infection control, and accurate charting; participate in rapid assessment and escalation of deteriorating patients.
  • Communicate clearly with patients, families, and members of the multidisciplinary ED team; document changes in patient condition and care plans promptly.
