Performs administrative and operational management of a recreation center providing varied programming and a swimming pool, and performs professional recreational events planning and implementation. An employee in this class is responsible for planning, organizing and managing a recreation center and programs and summer swimming pool program and supervising full and part time staff in the planning and implementation of the programs. Work includes developing center policies, standards and procedural manuals, administering the programs and planning special events for the department. Work involves budget development and management, personnel management and purchasing responsibilities. Management of the pool requires the employee to maintain varied certifications, and involves ensuring pool maintenance and chemical balancing, safety training, staffing and training of lifeguards and winterizing at the end of each season. Sound judgment, discretion and initiative are required in the performance of all duties. Frequent public contact requires tact, diplomacy and at times firmness in handling staffing or participant situations. Work is subjects to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise, vibration, hazards associated with recreation and pool operation work, fumes, odors, dust, mists and oils. Work is subject to OSHA regulations on blood borne pathogens. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Parks and Recreation Director and is evaluated through review of records and reports, conferences, and by an appraisal of the cost and quality effectiveness of results.
