About The Position

Reading Corps is hiring Reading Tutors to help students improve their reading skills at a local school. Tutors receive training in proven activities and ongoing coaching. Each school day, tutors work with pairs of students for 20-minute reading practice sessions, following a schedule until all assigned students are served. Tutors encourage students as they develop reading skills and confidence. Positions are for the 2026–27 school year and run from August 2026 through June 2027. Full-time positions are 35 hours per week, with fewer hours during weeks with holidays or school release days; part-time positions of 25 hours per week are also available. Hours are during the school day, Monday through Friday, with time off on holidays and school release days. Full-time AmeriCorps members receive a paycheck (stipend) every two weeks. Requirements

• Be dependable and have a history of good attendance.
• Be able to follow instructions and make improvements based on feedback.
• Have basic computer skills, such as using email and navigating online.
• Be fluent in English for speaking, reading, and writing.
• Be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent by the time service begins.
• Be a U.S. citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident.
• Successfully complete a background check.

Responsibilities

• Provide caring support focused on helping children thrive.
• Lead tutoring sessions and follow a schedule to ensure students receive support.
• Track student progress and meet regularly with the school's on-site coach.
• Conduct skill assessments and enter student scores in data software.
• Participate in coaching and training to support personal growth.
• Share the tutoring experience with the community.
