About The Position

Reading Tutors serve at local schools, helping students improve their reading skills through structured practice and encouragement. Tutors receive training and coaching to deliver proven activities. On each school day, tutors work with pairs of students for 20-minute reading sessions, help students return to their classrooms, and move on to the next pair according to a schedule. Tutors assess skills, record student scores in data software, track progress, and meet regularly with the school's onsite coach. The position also involves ongoing training and coaching, and sharing the tutor's experience with the community. The organization is currently hiring for the 2026–27 school year. Positions run from August 2026 through June 2027. Full-time members serve 35 hours per week, with fewer hours during weeks with holidays or school release days; part-time positions are also available at 25 hours per week. Work takes place during daytime school hours, Monday through Friday, with holidays and school release days off. AmeriCorps members have a total service-hour commitment for the program year, and may occasionally complete approved service or training outside the school day as needed.
