About The Position

Reading Corps is hiring Reading Tutors to help students improve their reading skills at a local school. Tutors receive training in proven activities and ongoing coaching. Each school day, tutors work with pairs of students for 20 minutes of reading practice, help students return to their classrooms, and then move on to the next pair until all assigned students have been served. Tutors encourage students as they build reading skills and confidence. Positions are available for the 2026–27 school year and run January 2026 through June 2027. Full-time positions are 35 hours per week, with fewer hours during weeks with holidays or school release days. Part-time positions of 20 hours per week are also available. Hours are during the school day, Monday through Friday, with time off on holidays and school release days. AmeriCorps members have a total service-hour commitment for the program year; most hours are completed through regular site-based service, and members plan schedules with program staff. Approved service or training may occasionally take place outside the school day. Full-time AmeriCorps members receive a paycheck (stipend) every two weeks, with compensation of up to $18.18 per hour served. Benefits and additional perks include individual health insurance with the monthly premium fully covered, child care assistance based on family size and income, a member assistance program, education awards for college tuition or student loans, federal student loan forbearance and interest repayment, and time accrued toward the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Reading Corps is powered by AmeriCorps members and administered by Ampact, a nonprofit organization. The program is fueled by research from ServeMinnesota’s National Science + Service Collaborative. Ampact prohibits discrimination and harassment based on protected characteristics and offers reasonable accommodation upon request.
