About The Position

Reading Corps is hiring Reading Tutors to serve at local schools during the 2026–27 school year, helping students improve their reading skills. Tutors receive training in proven activities and ongoing coaching. Each school day, tutors work with pairs of students for 20-minute reading practice sessions, then help students return to their classrooms and move on to the next pair according to a schedule. Tutors encourage students as they build reading skills and confidence. Positions run from August 2026 through June 2027. The standard schedule is 35 hours per week, with reduced hours during weeks with holidays or school release days; part-time options of 25 or 15 hours per week are also available. Hours are during the day and generally correspond with school start and end times, Monday through Friday. AmeriCorps members commit to a total number of service hours for the program year; most service is site-based, though approved service or training may occasionally take place outside the school day. Full-time members receive a stipend of $17.50 per hour served, paid every two weeks, plus benefits.

Requirements

• Be dependable and have a history of good attendance.
• Be able to follow instructions and make improvements based on feedback.
• Have basic computer skills, such as using email and navigating online.
• Be fluent in spoken and written English, including reading.
• Be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent by the start of service.
• Be a U.S. citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident.
• Successfully complete a background check.

Responsibilities

• Track student progress and meet regularly with the school's onsite coach.
• Conduct skill assessments and enter student scores into data software.
