Reading Tutor
About The Position
Reading Corps is hiring Reading Tutors to help students improve their reading skills at a local school. Tutors receive training to deliver research-based activities and ongoing coaching. On each school day, tutors work with pairs of students for 20-minute reading practice sessions, follow a schedule to serve all assigned students, and encourage students as they build their skills and confidence. Positions run from January 2027 through June 2027 for the 2026–27 school year. The schedule is 32 hours per week, with reduced hours during weeks with holidays or school release days; part-time positions of 25 or 15 hours per week are also available. Hours are during the day and correspond with school start and end times, Monday through Friday, with holidays and school release days off. Full-time AmeriCorps members receive a paycheck (stipend) every two weeks at $19 per hour served, along with additional benefits.
Requirements
- Be dependable and have a history of good attendance.
- Be able to follow instructions and make improvements based on feedback.
- Have basic computer skills, including email and navigating online.
- Be fluent in English in speaking, reading, and writing.
- Be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent by the time service begins.
- Be a U.S. citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident.
- Successfully complete a background check.
Responsibilities
- Be a caring adult focused on helping students thrive.
- Lead tutoring sessions and follow a schedule to ensure students receive support.
- Track student progress and meet regularly with the school's onsite coach.
- Conduct skill assessments and enter student scores into data software.
- Commit to personal growth through coaching and training.
- Share the tutoring experience with the community.
