About The Position

Vultr is seeking a Provisioning Engineer to drive high-volume server activation and support the rapid expansion of its global cloud infrastructure. The role is suited to a Linux-focused automation enthusiast with strong scripting fundamentals and a desire to learn. It requires attention to detail and the ability to deliver at scale during peak onboarding periods. The Provisioning Engineer will contribute to onboarding thousands of new servers through 2026, supporting customer growth and capacity expansion by building repeatable, automated provisioning systems for Vultr’s bare metal, GPU, and high-performance cloud services.

Requirements

4+ years of experience in Linux systems administration, deployment automation, or infrastructure operations.
Strong Bash scripting skills, including experience building and maintaining automation scripts for repetitive tasks.
Hands-on experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible or Puppet.
Solid understanding of Linux fundamentals, including networking, storage, boot processes, and command-line tooling.
Comfort working in high-volume deployment environments with remote hands support.
Strong organizational and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Ability to work effectively during periods of rapid scaling and high-throughput demands.
Willingness to learn and adapt to Vultr’s provisioning workflows and tooling.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

Execute end-to-end server onboarding, including initial imaging and bundled firmware updates.
Respond to capacity management needs by provisioning new servers efficiently.
Perform basic post-onboarding validation and ensure a smooth handoff to the Platform team.
Coordinate with Sales, Customer Success, and Solutions Engineering teams on new assignments.
Build and improve automation scripts and provisioning pipelines.
Track and report onboarding metrics, identify bottlenecks, and drive improvements.
Support server repurposing and migration activities as part of the broader lifecycle process.
Maintain detailed documentation and runbooks for repeatable provisioning workflows.
Collaborate with the Hardware team when physical coordination is required during onboarding.
Contribute to process optimization to handle increasing onboarding volume with high quality.
