Principal Visual Designer

Principal Visual Designers at MetaLab are responsible for elevating the quality of work and pushing the boundaries of how products look and feel. They bring a passion for product design thinking and execute on a variety of project types and platforms. As the most senior designers, they consistently deliver on complex tracks of work, define design quality and process, and have deep industry knowledge and domain expertise. They define the product experience through art direction, UI design, and prototyping, translating the product brand and strategy into a thoughtful and refined visual system.

• Lead visual design and art direction for key parts of the product
• Guide the design of Production Hi-Fidelity: the detailed layout and interface design of the product flows
• Lean-in to the design of hero moments of experience: push the boundaries of visual design in the most memorable and important parts of the user journey
• Personally design the most important and challenging parts of the solution
• Support Product Designers by framing their work with solid design briefs and UX frameworks for the overall product
• Review Product Designer's visual design and brand application work and ensure the quality of what the team delivers
• Prototype new approaches to the work, respectfully declining the status quo and pushing both clients and colleagues outside of their comfort zones
• Collaborate directly with Design Leads and key client team members, presenting thinking and work effectively in internal meetings and client workshops and presentations
• Participate in research to generate and evaluate design opportunities, and test solutions using storyboards and prototypes
• Work hand-in-hand with engineers and product team members to foster innovation and ensure feasibility and fidelity of implementation
• Help promote an inspiring and inclusive environment for the team
• Opportunity to coach and mentor other designers if desired
• Share knowledge and approach to the craft with the broader design team at MetaLab

• 5+ years of product and immersive, experiential design experience at a digital agency or consultancy, ideally in a senior-level role.
• Strong portfolio showcasing exemplary interface design and art direction, with at least half of the examples specifically in product design.
• Proficiency in UI design, prototyping for motion and interaction, and art direction.
• Ability to lead visual design and art direction for key parts of the product.
• Experience in designing Production Hi-Fidelity layouts and interface design.
• Capability to push the boundaries of visual design in the most memorable and important parts of the user journey.
• Ability to personally design the most important and challenging parts of the solution.
• Skill in framing design work with solid design briefs and UX frameworks for the overall product.
• Experience in reviewing and ensuring the quality of visual design and brand application work.
• Proficiency in prototyping new approaches to the work and pushing both clients and colleagues outside of their comfort zones.
• Strong collaboration skills, including the ability to effectively present thinking and work in internal meetings and client workshops and presentations.
• Experience in participating in research to generate and evaluate design opportunities, and test solutions using storyboards and prototypes.
• Ability to work closely with engineers and product team members to foster innovation and ensure feasibility and fidelity of implementation.
• Ability to promote an inspiring and inclusive environment for the team.
