About The Position

Propeller is seeking a Practice Leader & Client CFO, Growth to own the end-to-end practice, including its commercial engine, embedded delivery teams, and strategic relationships. This role is for someone ready to build a practice, not just a portfolio, and will partner with growth-stage companies scaling from $30M to $300M and beyond. The ideal candidate will have experience scaling companies, understanding complex financial infrastructure, and possessing the confidence to deliver difficult truths. This is an equity-track leadership role. Propeller's Growth practice serves large clients and is poised for significant expansion. The company has a history of reinventing finance teams for venture-stage companies and has expanded to support clients as they grow beyond venture funding. Propeller employs over 250 professionals across three continents, focusing on embedded finance and accounting partnerships with emerging companies in Consumer, Technology, Blockchain, and Business Services. They have a proven track record of supporting successful companies and are focused on transforming professional services through AI-enabled intelligence. Their embedded teams integrate seamlessly into client operations, attending leadership meetings, participating in board prep, and collaborating on strategic decisions. PropellerOS, their financial operating platform, combines human judgment, accounting precision, data infrastructure, and AI insights to enhance finance functions.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated business development success: ability to identify, cultivate, and close client relationships in coordination with our GoToMarket team.
  • 15+ years in finance/accounting with at least 7 years in CFO or senior financial leadership roles.
  • Direct experience scaling companies from $30M to $300M+ in revenue, ideally as CFO or VP Finance.
  • Demonstrated AI fluency: you work with AI in your own finance workflow today, and you can walk us through how it changes what you produce.
  • Track record leading and developing teams: managing managers, not just individual contributors.
  • Strong executive presence; comfortable presenting to boards, private equity sponsors, and sophisticated stakeholders.
  • Experience building financial infrastructure that scales: ERP transitions, reporting systems, planning processes.
  • Understanding of how Consumer businesses work: the economics, the channels, the metrics, the seasonal rhythms, the retail relationships, the brand dynamics.
  • Deep expertise in at least one of: DTC/e-commerce (CAC, LTV, channel economics, fulfillment optimization, Shopify/Amazon ecosystem); CPG (trade spend, retailer margins, inventory turns, COGS optimization, promotional ROI); or omnichannel retail (wholesale vs. DTC mix, sell-through rates, gross margin management, supply chain finance).
  • Experience in core processes and systems, such as inventory, trade spend, Quickbooks, Netsuite, etc.

Nice To Haves

  • Multi-client or consulting background strongly preferred (Big 4, boutique advisory, PE portfolio, or similar).
  • Business Services depth alongside Consumer is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Own the Growth practice's expansion: pipeline, bookings, retention, and P&L.
  • Develop go-to-market strategy for Growth-stage Consumer companies and build relationships with private equity, investors, and advisors for referrals.
  • Build and lead the teams that manage Growth portfolios, ensuring client satisfaction, deliverable quality, and engagement profitability.
  • Set service standards and hold teams accountable.
  • Conduct regular portfolio reviews, build capacity through hiring and development, and provide senior attention to engagements.
  • Serve as CFO-level advisor to Growth-stage Consumer operators, bringing pattern recognition from scaling companies from $30M to $300M.
  • Maintain strategic relationships with complex clients.
  • Translate financial data into strategic insight and deliver difficult messages with clarity.
  • Certify and stand behind AI-produced analyses presented to boards.
  • Drive business development through networking, referrals, strategic partnerships, and direct outreach.
  • Own the financial performance of the Growth practice: revenue, margins, utilization, and profitability.
  • Lead and develop the practice's embedded teams, placing people in roles where their strengths compound.
  • Serve as executive sponsor and escalation point for key accounts.
  • Participate in board meetings and investor conversations for strategic clients.
  • Make informed decisions about pricing, resource allocation, and engagement scope.
  • Use PropellerOS to deliver cross-client insight and codify best practices.
  • Continuously improve service delivery quality, efficiency, and client impact across the practice.
