Power Modeling Architect (CPU/GPU Accelerators)

Advanced Micro Devices, Inc•Austin, TX

About The Position

As a Power and Frequency Modeling Architect on AMD’s Central Methodology team, you will own and contribute across the bounding-box lifecycle, from concept and early targeting through feasibility, silicon design, post-silicon correlation, and production. You will establish power and timing targets and develop decision-grade models for AMD’s energy-efficient, high-performance CPU cores, graphics, and machine-intelligence chips. The role collaborates broadly across AMD on programs ranging from low-power APUs to supercomputers, supporting architectural and product decisions throughout development. Locations listed are Austin, Texas; San Diego, California; Santa Clara, California; Fort Collins, Colorado; and Boston, Massachusetts. This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Requirements

  • Master’s or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Strong data analysis skills and proficiency in Excel and Python.
  • Strong background in VLSI, digital design, and computer architecture concepts.
  • Familiarity with the balance between design, frequency, and power.
  • Knowledge of wafer fabrication technologies and libraries, including their tradeoffs.
  • Proficiency in silicon test methodologies.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience fostering collaboration with team members within and outside the organization across multiple sites.

Responsibilities

  • Generate detailed frequency-versus-power models in collaboration with design, technology, and post-silicon teams.
  • Work with IP and subsystem teams to meet product targets before and after silicon, including performance at power and/or power at performance.
  • Provide feedback and direction to IP teams to drive power and timing optimization and design tradeoffs throughout a project.
  • Develop bottoms-up estimates and top-down power and frequency targets for new IPs and subsystems.
  • Work across multiple divisions to define frequency and power targets and drive modeling throughout the project lifecycle.
