About The Position

Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota is hiring Positive Support Specialists for its Intensive Community Residential Services (ICRS) programs, which support individuals with intensive medical, behavioral, and mental health needs. Specialists use a person-centered approach to help people work toward their goals while considering the safety of the individual, team members, and community. Consistency and routine are key to these programs. Specialists support individuals at home and in the community so they can take part in meaningful events and activities. The role includes assisting with life skills and independence, advocating for individuals, completing shift documentation, responding safely to crises, and providing trauma-informed care. Training in Positive Behavioral Supports and manual restraints is provided in conjunction with 245D requirements. The posting offers a $1,000 hiring bonus to eligible employees.

Requirements

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a variety of individuals.
Ability to stand, squat, bend, or walk for long periods of time.
Ability to lift 50 pounds.
Clearance through a Bureau of Criminal Affairs (BCA) background study.
Valid driver's license and a Motor Vehicle Check (MVR).
Minimum high school diploma.
Minimum 1–2 years of experience working with people with complex needs.

A degree in a field relevant to the role.
3–5 years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

Support individuals at home and in the community to participate in meaningful events and activities.
Assist individuals in developing independence with essential life skills, including meal preparation, personal hygiene, and navigating the community.
Advocate for individuals regarding their rights, medical care, and participation in the community.
Complete required documentation and record-keeping each shift.
Manage crisis situations safely and effectively, including potential use of manual restraints.
Provide trauma-informed care.
