Requirements

  • Two years of experience at the level of the Los Angeles County class of Phlebotomy Technician I or higher.
  • A valid certificate to practice as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician I or II issued by the California State Department of Health Services, Laboratory Field Services (CA DHS-LFS) Phlebotomy Program.
  • A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
  • Experience at the level of the Los Angeles County class of Phlebotomy Technician I is defined as: Performs venipuncture and skin puncture to obtain blood specimens from patients for diagnostic testing in a medical or clinical laboratory.
  • Experience at a higher level is defined as: Schedules, assigns and reviews the work of a group of Phlebotomy Technicians I engaged in the performance of venipuncture and skin puncture to obtain blood specimens for diagnostic testing in a medical or clinical laboratory.

Responsibilities

  • Plans work of phlebotomy services to ensure needs of hospitals and clinics are met.
  • Recommends to supervisor changes in unit operations and budget expenditures in order to provide increased phlebotomy service to hospitals units and clinics.
  • Supervises phlebotomy technicians and ancillary personnel with responsibility for their training and evaluation; effectively recommends the adjustment of employee grievances and disciplinary action.
