The Pharmacy Intern supports pharmacy operations by counseling customers, assisting with medication recommendations, accurately processing and dispensing prescriptions, handling insurance and payment transactions, supporting inventory activities, and providing immunizations under pharmacist supervision. The role also involves maintaining a clean department, reporting safety concerns and incidents, and working cooperatively in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

Actively enrolled in a US school of pharmacy.
Hold a current state-issued Pharmacy Intern license.

Responsibilities

Promote trust and respect among associates.
Create a welcoming environment by answering customer questions about products sold in the department and throughout the store.
Gain and maintain knowledge of pharmaceutical products and discuss them competently with customers and prescribers.
Provide drug counseling to customers.
Assist with recommendations for over-the-counter medications.
Accurately enter patient and prescription information into the pharmacy computer system.
Dispense the correct medication.
Contact prescribers’ offices for authorization.
Bag filled prescriptions and deliver them accurately to customers.
Process customers’ third-party insurance information.
Contact insurance companies on customers’ behalf when necessary.
Facilitate charge purchases for customers.
Accurately accept and interpret oral and written prescriptions for filling or refilling.
Clean the department.
Provide immunizations under the supervision of a pharmacist.
Compare and check incoming orders.
Stock incoming orders properly.
Return unused medication stock bottles to stock.
Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
Notify the pharmacist on duty if made aware of a prescription incident.
Report safety risks, issues, and illegal activity, including robbery, theft, or fraud.
Work cooperatively in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment.
Manage conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational, and cooperative manner.
Act honestly and with integrity regarding customer and business information.
Follow directions and seek assistance when necessary to resolve customer and business issues.
Provide support and assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.
