About The Position

The Corporate Planning Branch is responsible for ministry planning and reporting, including ministry business planning and reporting, operational planning, enterprise risk management, performance measurement and reporting. Requirements

  • University graduation in a related field plus 4 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.
  • Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
  • Experience in performance measurement, reporting, analytics, research, or program evaluation.
  • Experience developing performance measures, targets, key performance indicators, and outcome-based reporting frameworks
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Strong research, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities.
  • Experience preparing reports, briefing materials, presentations, and executive-level information products.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills.
  • Use of Statistical tools like SPSS, Python to analyze large volume of data.
  • Proficiency in data analysis, reporting, and visualization tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI, Tableau, or similar).

  • Experience supporting ministry business planning, annual reporting, and accountability processes within the Alberta Public Service.
  • Knowledge of Government of Alberta performance measurement and reporting frameworks.
  • Experience with outcomes measurement, logic models, and performance indicators.
  • Knowledge of Alberta's education and childcare system, programs, and stakeholders.
  • Experience working in a public sector, policy, planning, or corporate reporting environment.

Responsibilities

  • Leading the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of ministry performance measures, targets, and outcome frameworks in alignment with management direction.
  • Conducting research to identify leading practices and innovative approaches to performance measurement.
  • Analyzing complex quantitative and qualitative data to assess ministry performance and identify emerging trends.
  • Developing customized analyses, reports, dashboards, and briefing materials to support strategic planning, policy development, risk management, and decision-making.
  • Coordinating performance metrics reporting in the Ministry Annual Report and other corporate reporting initiatives in accordance with government legislation, standards, and timelines.
  • Support ministry contributions to government-wide planning, reporting, and accountability processes.
  • Providing project management services for performance measurement initiatives including project planning, implementation and monitoring.
  • Developing project charters, work plans, timelines, business cases, and other project documentation to ensure successful delivery of initiatives.
  • Building and maintaining collaborative relationships with ministry branches, government partners, and education and childcare sector stakeholders to support reporting and performance measurement initiatives.
  • Providing strategic advice and support to branch leadership on issues, opportunities, and emerging challenges related to ministry performance, accountability, and reporting.
  • Supporting other key priorities of the branch.
