About The Position

This position is responsible for scheduling/confirming appointments, registering patients, and maintaining the scheduling template. The role involves greeting patients and visitors, completing or verifying registration paperwork, collecting co-pays and other payments, and verifying insurance information. The Patient Services Representative will also handle telephone calls, manage departmental machines, and perform other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge of use and care of departmental machines necessary to perform job duties, including printer, computer, copy machine and fax
  • Positive and effective communication skills
  • Ability to work well with others including all customers
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to use clinic telephone system effectively
  • Continually requires hand and finger dexterity
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception and ability to adjust focus

Responsibilities

  • Schedules patient appointments
  • Confirms appointments for physician schedules
  • Sends the patient forms required for appointments
  • Responsible for template maintenance as assigned
  • Performs registration functions in a courteous, accurate and well-organized manner, including new patient registration and review of demographic information
  • Follow through with any system notes from the business office regarding collection of payment
  • Operates and maintains departmental machines such as printer, computer, copy machine, and fax
  • Answers the telephone courteously, identifies self, and takes accurate telephone messages or directs calls to the appropriate extension
  • Properly turns telephones over to the switchboard or answering service when away from desk or at close of business hours
  • Greets patients and visitors as they enter the clinic
  • Verifies insurance coverage and enters information into EPIC
  • Collects co-pays and other payments as required
  • Takes patient payments
  • Attempts to collect outstanding account balances at the time of appointment, when applicable
  • Prints and routes slips to the appropriate printer
  • Balances cash drawer with EPIC and credit card batch daily
  • Processes credit card payments
