About The Position

Under the direction of the Patient Services Manager, the Patient Services Representative shall receive patients and process necessary paperwork for their visits. This role involves greeting patients, explaining and processing paperwork, utilizing computer systems for data entry, screening patients, informing them about financial assistance programs, performing income and status verification, collecting payments, assisting with enrollment in programs like HWLA, and providing front desk coverage. The position also requires staying updated on payment options and attending training.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • A minimum of 6 months working in hospital conducting financial screening or working in a community clinic conducting financial screening and/or one (1) year front office clerical required.
  • Ability to work with people of diverse cultural, educational, social, and economic backgrounds.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Computer proficiency
  • Bilingual required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience utilizing an Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system is highly desirable

Responsibilities

  • Greet all patients in a professional and friendly manner.
  • Provide and explain necessary paperwork to the patients for processing scheduled appointment or walk-in appointment.
  • Utilize provided computer and software to input information and record all visits.
  • Screen each patient prior to examination by provider, reviewing patient information to ensure data is current and correct.
  • Inform patients of different programs to offset charges, explaining qualifications and requirements (e.g., Office of Family Planning, Medi-Cal, CHDP, PPP, HWLA, Sliding Fee).
  • Perform income verification.
  • Perform status verification when appropriate.
  • Review collected patient information, explain fee schedules and payment methods, and collect payment when required.
  • Assist eligible patients to establish and maintain HWLA enrollment, including following up on pending, denied, or disenrolled patients.
  • Provide telephone and in-person assistance to complete related applications.
  • Advise patients on required documentation for applications and answer questions regarding the enrollment process.
  • Prepare all related reports and maintain files, databases, and other program records.
  • Serve as a liaison/super-user to HWLA, monitor program changes, and ensure all HWLA applications are complete and submitted.
  • Provide training and updates to team members.
  • Make recommendations to improve enrollment processes.
  • Facilitate completion of special projects related to HWLA.
  • Provide coverage for front desk, telephone reception, and/or appointment desk.
  • Keep abreast of all payment options and special programs available to cover the cost of services rendered.
  • Attend training when required.
  • Provide financial responsibility information to callers as needed.
  • Assist the billing department when needed.
  • Attend outside meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
