About The Position

As a Patient Registration Representative in the Emergency Department, you will be the first point of contact for patients during critical moments and help set the tone for their healthcare experience. You will learn registration protocols and systems while providing customer service that helps patients feel heard and cared for when they arrive. The role involves welcoming patients and visitors, accurately completing registrations and updates, verifying insurance coverage and eligibility, handling cash collections, responding to inquiries, managing competing priorities in a fast-paced emergency department, and supporting colleagues through knowledge-sharing.

Requirements

• High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
• Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent customer service skills, including in-person, telephone, and written communication.
• Professional communication with patients, visitors, and clinical and non-clinical staff.

Nice To Haves

• One year of experience in patient admitting, registration, and/or insurance eligibility verification in a hospital or medical office setting.
• Experience with the EPIC EHR system.
• Familiarity with insurance payor systems.
• Knowledge of ICD-10 medical terminology.
• Demonstrated ability to train and support colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and visitors warmly and create a positive first impression.
• Complete new patient registrations and updates accurately and efficiently, ensuring information is current and complete.
• Verify insurance coverage and eligibility and help patients understand their benefits.
• Handle cash collections accurately and with integrity.
• Respond professionally and empathetically to inquiries from patients, visitors, and staff, advocating for thoughtful resolution of concerns.
• Manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced Emergency Department while staying organized and responsive.
• Share knowledge with colleagues and help support the registration team.
