About The Position

The Emergency Department Patient Access Representative is the first point of contact for patients and families arriving at the emergency department. This position performs bedside registration by collecting and verifying patient identity, demographic, and insurance information, and ensures required procedures are followed for billing and admissions. The role also performs emergency department registration workflows, collects co-payments, and verifies and updates accounts. The representative works collaboratively in a multidisciplinary clinical setting and must be flexible about working in different physical locations and roles to meet customer needs. The position is based in the Emergency Department at Children’s of Alabama’s Main Campus Level I Trauma Center.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Knowledge of insurance verification and medical terminology.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently.
• Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
• Flexibility to work in different physical locations and roles as needed.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor of Science or Arts in Business Administration.
• Knowledge of or experience with the Epic system.
• At least one year of experience posting cash, credit, or check payments through Epic.
• Experience with patient registration applications.
• Zero years of staff-level job experience in Care Administration—Registration is listed as nonessential.
