About The Position

Inova Primary Care - Fair Oaks is seeking a dedicated Patient Access Specialist. The role supports patient access operations in a primary care setting and follows Inova Health System’s Service Excellence standards. Duties include admitting and scheduling patients, verifying insurance, and providing financial counseling. This is a full-time, Monday–Friday, day-shift position scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• One year of patient access experience.

Responsibilities

• Manage patient intake, registration, documentation, complex cases, errors, authorizations, and document validation and indexing.
• Prepare schedules, track records, and use multiple administrative systems.
• Coordinate documentation and follow up on case-related tasks.
• Assess insurance coverage and initiate financial assistance.
• Apply payer-specific rules, resolve insurance issues, and identify contract limitations.
• Resolve moderate patient concerns and track follow-ups.
• Educate patients about kiosks and report usage trends.
• Coordinate with departments, tailor patient communications, and support patients.
• Validate insurance and track referral status.
• Schedule specialty visits and coordinate preparation.
• Coordinate transportation for patients with special needs.
• Resolve minor chart issues and assist with release of information.
• Provide documentation to utilization review teams.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
