About The Position

Inova Outpatient Oncology Clinics is seeking a dedicated Patient Access Specialist Sr. to provide excellent service by identifying customer needs and fulfilling customer expectations. The role performs patient-admission duties and activities related to scheduling medical procedures. It verifies and enters insurance information and authorization and referral requirements into databases, and counsels patients about financial liability using available financial counseling tools to support maximum reimbursement for patient services. The role also helps ensure a safe patient-care environment and contributes to team goals.

This is a full-time position with a Monday–Friday schedule, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Inova describes itself as Northern Virginia’s leading nonprofit healthcare provider, with more than 26,000 team members, and emphasizes safety, quality, patient experience, and professional development.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of healthcare patient access experience.
• High school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Report safety hazards or violations and take appropriate action to protect the environment and guests until help arrives, if necessary.
• Give and receive direct, honest feedback with team members in a non-punishing manner.
• Explain insurance benefits and patient liability using appropriate communication methods and styles.
• Support scheduling through pre-service activities, including insurance verification and submission.
• Gather information about customer complaints in a courteous and professional manner.
• Troubleshoot individual admission issues in collaboration with other departments and staff.
• Identify and communicate payroll authorization and referral requirements.
• Complete an acceptable volume of work with high levels of accuracy.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
