About The Position

Fairfax Hospital's Neurosurgery Clinic is seeking a dedicated Patient Access Specialist Senior for a full-time, day-shift role, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The position serves as a subject matter expert and mentor, resolving escalations and supporting quality assurance across patient access functions. The specialist may train peers, troubleshoot system issues, and contribute to process improvements. Duties may include patient intake and registration, administrative and technology operations, case management, financial counseling, insurance coordination, handling inquiries and patient concerns, kiosk support, patient communication and advocacy, referrals, surgery scheduling, transport, Health Information Management coordination, and utilization review coordination. The role ensures compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and other applicable federal and state regulations, and may include additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 2 years of patient access experience.

Responsibilities

• Audit records and documentation for accuracy, troubleshoot discrepancies, and support escalations related to patient intake, registration, and documentation.
• Compile reports, troubleshoot system issues, and support peers with administrative and technology operations.
• Audit referrals and support case management escalations.
• Conduct financial reviews and mentor staff in financial counseling.
• Troubleshoot complex insurance and contract cases and educate peers on insurance contract nuances.
• Handle escalated inquiries and patient concerns and analyze trends.
• Analyze kiosk performance and train staff on patient kiosks.
• Handle sensitive patient concerns, audit logs, and advocate for patient needs.
• Audit referral workflows and mentor staff.
• Schedule surgeries and verify readiness.
• Resolve transport issues and audit logs.
• Liaise with Health Information Management on record merges and audit medical record numbers.
• Support utilization review escalations concerning medical necessity.
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and other applicable federal and state regulations.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
