About The Position

The Patient Access Representative processes patient preadmission and admission demographic and insurance data, enters information into the hospital computer system, and maintains quality control to ensure the accuracy of each preadmission and admission. The role serves as a liaison among patients, financial counselors, and hospital patient accounting, and ensures compliance with state, federal, and MUSC policies and procedures.

The position functions in the Patient Admissions Department and in bedside settings, including the Emergency Department, inpatient units, ICU, observation, nursery, and pre- and post-operative units. It also collects all mandatory documents for the Admissions Department.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
• One year of customer service experience.
• Pass a typing exam with a minimum score of 35 words per minute.
• Ability to perform the stated physical requirements, including standing, sitting, walking, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds unassisted, and working rotating shifts and overtime as required.

Nice To Haves

• Ability to interpret and apply financial procedures and regulations.
• Previous experience with hospital information systems or word processing.
