About The Position

The Patient Access Representative works in Emergency Room Registration on a per diem basis, covering rotating 12-hour shifts that may fall on any day of the week. The role registers patients by gathering accurate demographic and financial information, determines patient or guarantor financial status, and completes related insurance and financial functions and signatures. The representative communicates with insurers and hospital departments, collects payments, responds helpfully to inquiries, and completes required reports.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Excellent customer service, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to multitask.

Nice To Haves

• Certified Patient Account Technician (CPAT) certification preferred, but not required.
• Associate's degree preferred, or currently working toward one.

Responsibilities

• Register patients and obtain necessary, accurate financial and demographic information.
• Receive, investigate, and respond to inquiries and questions in a pleasant and helpful manner.
• Determine the financial status of the patient or guarantor and complete financial- and insurance-related functions and signatures.
• Communicate with third-party payors, obtain insurance benefits, and secure insurance authorizations.
• Collect amounts due from patients at admission or, in the ER, before discharge.
• Complete necessary reports.
• Communicate with Case Management, Patient Financial Services, the Self/Pay/Medicaid Eligibility Team, and other departments as appropriate.
