About The Position

The Patient Access Representative works in Emergency Room Registration in a per diem capacity, working 12-hour shifts that may fall on any day of the week. The role registers patients and completes financial, insurance, and demographic processes while providing helpful service to patients and responding to inquiries. The position supports communication among payors, patients, and hospital departments as needed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Excellent customer service, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to multitask.

Nice To Haves

• Certified Patient Account Technician (CPAT) certification is preferred but not required.
• Associate's degree, or being in the process of obtaining one, is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Register patients by obtaining accurate financial and demographic information.
• Receive, investigate, and respond to inquiries and questions in a pleasant and helpful manner.
• Determine the financial status of the patient or guarantor and complete financial and insurance-related functions and signatures.
• Communicate with third-party payors, obtain insurance benefits, and obtain insurance authorizations.
• Collect amounts due from patients at admission or in the ER before discharge.
• Complete all necessary reports.
• Communicate with Case Management, Patient Financial Services, the Self/Pay/Medicaid Eligibility Team, and other departments when appropriate.
