About The Position

The Patient Access Representative plays a critical role in ensuring a smooth and efficient patient intake process within healthcare facilities across the United States. This position is responsible for managing patient registration, verifying insurance information, and facilitating communication between patients and healthcare providers. The ultimate goal is to enhance the patient experience by providing accurate information, addressing inquiries, and resolving any access-related issues promptly. The role requires a detail-oriented and compassionate individual who can handle sensitive patient data while maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a healthcare or customer service role, preferably in patient registration or access.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare insurance processes.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and electronic health record (EHR) software.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail is essential when verifying insurance information and entering patient data into electronic health record systems to prevent errors and delays.
  • Problem-solving skills are frequently applied to resolve scheduling conflicts, insurance denials, or patient concerns promptly.
  • Technical proficiency with EHR software and scheduling tools enables efficient management of patient information and appointment coordination.
  • Empathy and customer service skills are critical in providing a supportive environment that helps patients feel comfortable and informed throughout their healthcare experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or higher in healthcare administration or related field.
  • Experience with specific EHR platforms such as Epic, Cerner, or Meditech.
  • Familiarity with insurance verification and authorization procedures.
  • Bilingual abilities, especially in Spanish or other commonly spoken languages in the United States.
  • Certification as a Certified Patient Access Representative (CPAR) or similar credential.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and visitors in a professional and courteous manner, ensuring a positive first impression.
  • Collect and verify patient demographic and insurance information accurately during the registration process.
  • Schedule patient appointments and coordinate with clinical staff to optimize patient flow.
  • Assist patients with understanding their insurance benefits and financial responsibilities.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and other regulatory requirements.
  • Resolve patient access issues by collaborating with insurance companies, billing departments, and clinical teams.
  • Update and maintain accurate patient records in electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Provide timely and clear communication to patients regarding appointment changes, required documentation, and billing inquiries.
