About The Position

Patient Access Representatives are primarily responsible for completing efficient, organized patient check-in, with throughput and customer service as top priorities. The role requires collecting accurate information, protecting its confidentiality, and ensuring patients understand their rights under HIPAA regulations and company policy. Depending on the location, process and system knowledge may differ; examples include order entry at outpatient locations and scheduling at some satellite locations.

Staff members are expected to conduct themselves according to St. Tammany Health System's mission, vision, and values. Some positions may be essential personnel during disaster situations, such as hurricane evacuations or threats. The posting identifies ER Patient Access Specialists and some Lead-level positions as examples and advises applicants to confirm the requirement during the hiring process.

Requirements

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and courteously with patients and/or insurance carriers.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced professional environment.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to maintain a professional, neat work environment.
• Promote a positive image of STPH while maintaining strict confidentiality.
• Good physical health; the role involves prolonged standing, sitting, or walking and requires lifting at least 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or equivalent; proof of enrollment in or completion of a post-secondary or vocational program may also be accepted.
• At least 3 months of previous customer service experience.
• Education or certifications in a medical field.
• Bilingual skills.
