About The Position

The Party & Event Host plans, coordinates, and facilitates events, including children’s birthday parties and craft classes, in a Michaels store. The role creates a fun, creative, and engaging experience for guests of all ages while helping make events stress-free for clients. Responsibilities also include serving customers, supporting checkout, and completing store operations such as truck unloading, stocking, merchandise recovery, and maintaining cleanliness and safety standards. The position is cross-trained in Custom Framing selling and production. Work takes place in a public retail store. Public areas are climate controlled, but some stock rooms may not be. Outdoor work may be required when retrieving shopping carts or unloading trucks. Work hours include nights, weekends, and early mornings. The role involves extended standing and moving throughout the store, as well as bending, lifting, carrying, reaching, stretching, and accessing high shelves using a ladder or similar equipment.

Requirements

Retail and/or customer service experience is required.
Experience working with children and children’s events is required.
Excellent people skills and the ability to interact effectively with guests of all ages and coworkers.
Ability to handle job stress and remain positive and respectful, including in difficult situations.
Good written, verbal, and nonverbal communication and listening skills.
Organizational, interpersonal, and creative problem-solving skills.
Ability to remain standing for long periods and move throughout the store.
Ability to bend, lift, carry, reach, stretch, lift heavy boxes, and access high shelves using a ladder or similar equipment.

Responsibilities

Plan and coordinate multiple events, including children’s birthday parties, craft classes, and other events.
Engage guests of all ages and create a fun, creative environment.
Demonstrate and instruct participants in craft projects, face painting, and other activities.
Facilitate event add-ons such as goody bags and balloons according to company standards.
Communicate event details with clients and store team members; respond to emails, make calls, and complete paperwork as needed.
Adjust event plans based on client feedback and needs, prepare backup or emergency plans, and ensure client satisfaction.
Set up, break down, and clean before and after events; uphold cleanliness and safety standards.
Help customers locate products and find solutions, and provide a fast, friendly checkout experience.
Promote the Rewards program and Private Label Credit Cards and complete enrollments; educate customers about the Voice of Customer survey.
Assist with omnichannel processes, including Buy Online Pickup in Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS).
Participate in truck unloading, stocking, planogram processes, Store in Stock Optimization (SISO), and AD set duties as assigned.
Complete merchandise recovery and maintenance and support shrink and safety programs.
Follow standard operating procedures, company programs, policies, and standards to support compliance with applicable laws and requirements.
Interact respectfully and positively with others, promote the organization’s vision and values, and serve as a role model for team members.
Cross-train in Custom Framing sales and production.
Participate in daily store-cleanliness activities, including sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, and maintaining restrooms.
Perform other duties as assigned.
